KIRO

기로

기로(岐路)는 인생의 여러 갈림길에서 잠시 멈춰 설 수 있는 쉼의 공간을 만들고자 시작된 프로젝트다. 갈림길 끝에 놓인 대지의 형상을 따라 어둡고 거친 재질의 매스를 배치하여, 작지만 묵직한 존재감을 드러내고자 했으며, 내면을 향하도록 이끄는 공간적 인상을 의도했다.

공간 안으로 들어서면 기로만의 작은 정원이 펼쳐진다. 내부 어디에서든 바라볼 수 있는 이 중정은 깊은 숨을 고르는 호흡의 장소다. 외부와 단절된 이 정원은 바깥으로부터 자유로워진 채, 오롯이 자신에게 집중할 수 있는 내면의 무대를 제공한다.

내부는 중정을 중심으로 대칭 구조를 이루며, 한쪽에는 침실이, 다른 한쪽에는 라운지가 자리한다. 그 안에서 머무는 이는 난로의 온기와 고요한 소리, 은은하게 스며드는 향 속에서 차분히 머물며 자신의 생각과 마주하게 된다.

기로에서의 차별화된 시간을 위해 인생의 갈림길에서 잠시 멈춰 선 사람들을 위한 다양한 경험의 여정이 마련되어 있다. 그중 내면으로의 여정을 위해 스스로에게 편지를 쓰고 1년 뒤 다시 그 편지를 보내주어 기로에서의 기억과 순간을 되돌아보는 경험을 마련하였고, 스테이 주변 지도를 따라 바다로 향하는 동안 수많은 갈림길에서 스스로의 결정에 따라 마주하는 풍경과 마을의 이야기를 만나는 경험을 더했다.

Kiro (岐路) began as a project to create a place of pause at the many crossroads of life. At the edge of such a path, the form of the land inspired the placement of a dark and rugged mass—small in scale yet carrying a weighty presence—intended to evoke a space that quietly turns one inward.

Stepping inside, one encounters Kiro’s small inner garden. Visible from every part of the interior, this courtyard becomes a place to catch one’s breath. Separated from the outside world, it offers freedom from external distractions and creates a stage for focusing wholly on the self.

The interior unfolds in symmetry around the courtyard, with a bedroom on one side and a lounge on the other. Within these spaces, the warmth of the fireplace, the quiet of sound, and the subtle presence of fragrance accompany one’s thoughts in silence.

To shape a distinctive experience at Kiro, journeys have been prepared for those who pause at life’s crossroads. Among them is the act of writing a letter to oneself and receiving it a year later, an invitation to return to the memory and moments of Kiro. Another experience leads guests along a map toward the sea, where countless crossroads invite personal choices, each revealing new landscapes and the stories of villages along the way.
